Hotel de Silhol L'hospice Guillaume III d'Angleterre

183 years of history linked with The Netherlands (1530-1702):
The Nassau had the name of Orange throughout the world.
The title Prince of Orange perpetuate in the Royal Family of The Netherlands.

 

The House of Louis de Silhol (17th Century)
Louis de Silhol, parliamentary advisor, inherited this house in 1632.

 

The Protestant Church
Louis XIV had it destroyed but it was rebuilt in 1698, when after the Treaty of Ryswick, the Principality was given to William III.

 

The Castle
One of the most beautiful fortresses in Europe, fortified by Maurice de Nassau in 1622. Destroyed by order of Louis XIV in 1673.

 

The oak tree planted by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands
When visiting Orange on 29 July 1952, Queen Juliana planted an oak tree on the Mount Saint Eutrope.

 

The hospice (16th Century)
This building became “The General Hospital for the needy sick” in 1638, by order of Prince Maurice de Nassau.

 

The College
Founded in 1573 by Louis de Nassau.
Under Philippe Guillaume, the staff of the college was composed of an equal number of Catholics and Calvinists. This equal division of staff was directly linked to the religious troubles.

 

The la Pise house
La Pise was advisor to the Prince and author of the first “A Picture of the History of the Princes and of the Principality of Orange” published in 1639 in the Hague.
