Installed in a town house, situated in front of the Antique Theatre, it houses roman relics of the past, coming from archaeological excavations of the town and an exhibition about the history of Orange from prehistoric time to the 18th century. Exhibited in the museum is an impressive roman land register from the 1st century, the most complete register found today.

To discover the history of provencal fabrics : paintings from the 18th century illustrate the different steps of the printed calico of the Wetter factory.

Thanks to Edouard Daladier, the city welcomed in 1940 a collection of paintings from Albert de Belleroche and Frack Brangwyn, English artists.The latter, follower of the Art Nouveau, owes his celebrity to monumental garnishments in the Rockfeller Center in New-York and the House of Lords.

"A century of performance"
From 1st April 2011 to 29th February 2012 the Museum of Art and History in Orange is host to a very distinctive exhibition, which plunges us into an operatic atmosphere retracing the history of the festival from 1869 to the present day.

La cadastration
The subdivision of Roman towns into areas of equal size (‘la cadastration’) was common practise throughout the Roman Empire from the 3rd Century BC onwards. Evidence of this can still be seen in the majority of Roman-occupied territories. Land was sectioned equally which allowed it to be fairly distributed to the settlers. Furthermore it meant that land could be easily allocated to various landowners according to status to control the tax system.
